Effective 10/01/2008 all students 15 years and older can begin the 30 hour in-class portion of the Maryland State Driver Education Program. Students who have passed the MVA Learner's Permit Test and possess a Maryland Learner's Permit can begin the 6-hours of behind-the-wheel training included in the Driver's Education Program. Additional behind the wheel driving lessons can also be setup as well as the road test for the drivers license a the MVA. This new regulation applies to all current and future students. The Maryland Motor Vehicle Administration recommends that students start Driver Education at age 15 or older, progress through the in-class training to prepare for the MVA Learner's Permit Exam, and than complete the behind-the-wheel portion of the training after the Learner's Permit is obtained.
